What is AVI?
AVI, which stands for Audio Video Interleave, is a Container format used by Microsoft's Video for Windows multimedia framework. Since it was developed for Windows 3.1 in 1992 it lacks some features found in newer containers like MPEG or MP4, but is still widely used by consumers and even supported by some standalone DVD players. Although still supported in Windows, and suitable for certain formats like DV, it's not a good general purpose container, and even Microsoft uses other containers for their own video formats.
The following tutorial will show you how to convert AVI to iTunes on Mac OS X (including Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard) using AVI to iTunes Converter for Mac.
Step 1. Download Mac AVI to iTunes Converter and run it.
Step 2. Load the AVI files you want to convert
Drag and drop the AVI files to the program or you can click the "Add Files" button to browse your computer hard disc and add the AVI files you want to convert to the program.
Batch conversion is also supported by this Mac AVI Converter, so you can load several AVI files at one time.
Step 3. Output Settings
After the AVI files are imported, you can select an output format for each video file and specify a directory on your computer to save the output files.
If you don't know what formats your device supports, you can just select the format according to the device name. For exapmle, you can select "iPod Touch (*.MPEG-4)" when you want to convert AVI to MP4 for playback on your iPod Touch. The default setting works well. Of course, if you don't want to use the default video and audio encoding settings, just click the "Settings" button to customize these settings.
